This is a very large number.

The applications of BioFeyn technology are far and wide, but the salmon market, with its incredible production and value are a universe unto themselves. The total export value of these fish is around $8bn, though this is anticipated to reach new heights in 2022, as a result of skyrocketing salmon prices (in some instances, more than 50%).

The industry, however, is not without challenge. Feeding these animals requires millions of tons of feed annually. Supply chain disruptions from covid and war are rampant, ingredient prices are through the roof, and many historically-used aquafeed inputs have challenging environmental backstories which make them less and less viable as sources of nutrition.

The industry is innovating at a rapid pace, but it will truly take a frameshift advancement in feed technology to adequately evolve the industry into the future. And it is precisely this which BioFeyn is aiming to provide. We are, of course, not doing this alone. We're bringing expertise from the world of human biomedicine, and are collaborating with partners who have decades of experience in fish and feed to help us laser-focus on the challenges and collectively build lasting solutions.

As we appreciate more every day, salmon farming is a community-based industry that is successful because of its cooperation. Healthy corners of competition are necessary to drive innovation, but the industry itself is reliant on partnerships to meet the unique environmental and resource demands of feeding and farming these fish.
